Methods: This was a descriptive correlation study. The subjects were 366 elderly(183 urban and 183 rural) over 65 years of age. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with SAS statistics.

Results: The degrees of depression, self-esteem, and quality of life in urban elderly were significantly better than in rural elderly. The predictors of quality of life in all urban and rural elderly were depression, self-esteem, and age. Depression was the biggest factor in all urban and rural elderly. These factors explained 61.6% of the total variance in urban elderly, and 64.5% in rural elderly.
